ABOUT ME
My name is Miguel Hernandez and I am a father of 4 human babies and 6 fur babies (4 dogs and 2 cats). I love music, dogs, cats, mountain biking, hiking, running, camping, camp fires, music, playing guitar, popcorn, and the Pittsburgh Penguins. I have been an educator for the past 21 years and have taught middle school, high school, and college level Spanish. I was born in Mexico and came to the U.S. when I was around eight. I grew up in a suburb of Pittsburgh since then. After high school I attended the University of Pittsburgh and received a B.A. in Hispanic Languages and Cultures, a B.S. in Psychology, and an undergraduate certificate in Latin American Studies. After finishing my undergraduate studies, I took some time to work at the University of Pittsburgh's Center for Latin American Studies for a year. It was through that experience that I realized that education was going to be my life's work. As such, I enrolled in a Master's of Arts in Teaching program at the University of Pittsburgh and finished in about 1 year. I have been teaching since. I completed a principal certification at Carnegie Mellon University and recently completed a doctorate in Educational Leadership at Point Park University. The topic of my dissertation is "Advancing and Advocating for Community Cultural Wealth in the K-12 Classroom." I believe education is a calling and this is why I have been in it for as long as I have. I'm currently teaching English Language Development and Spanish Language Arts in New Mexico at the high school level.
